Adel Abidin, Abidin Travels, Nordic Pavilion, 52nd Venice Biennale, 2007
Adel Abidin installed a ‘travel agency’ in the Nordic Pavilion at the 2007 Venice Biennale. A brightly coloured sign ‘Abidin Travels’ welcomes everyone to visit sunny Baghdad (VIDEO CLIP). Abidin was born in Baghdad (1973) and now, understandably, lives and works in Helsinki, Finland. Humour and absurdism are potent themes in modern/postmodern art and have proven invaluable to artists who wish to convey a political message without boring their audience to death. Abidin seems especially skilled in this area. Links: website version of Abidin Travels, artist’s website, universes in universes.
